Sonoma Estate

In the rolling hills of Sonoma, CA a casually elegant estate was developed over many years with organic vineyards, a hillside pool with cabana, and a main residence with an attached ADU. The design developed from the clients’ desires for a European style country home in the spirit of a monastery rather than a castle. Rustic grace, authentic materials and timeless craftsmanship were preferred over opulence or formality. The project resolved strict design review requirements for the local scenic corridor and the technical demands of the wildland urban interface (WUI) fire safety codes, which proved themselves when the house survived a firestorm that swept through the property in 2017.
